See how much condensate flashes, how much is lost today and what raising the return to the boiler is worth: fuel, water, chemical treatment and the payback.
Pre-sizing and estimating tool: results do not replace design, calculations or reports signed by a licensed professional, nor verification against the applicable codes and standards.
Share of condensate that flashes when dropping from trap pressure to each flash pressure.
Yearly savings by item: fuel, water and chemical treatment.
Take this page’s results to another calculator with the fields already filled in.
Cash flow of the improvement: investment in year 0 and annual savings escalated at the rate entered, discounted at the MARR.
The report gathers this page's inputs, results, equations, assumptions and references, with fields for project, engineer and revision. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF.
It depends on the pressures. Condensate at 115 psig vented to atmosphere flashes about 14%; into a 7 psig vessel, about 12%. The chart shows other pressures.
Only after treatment or with monitoring. Condensate with oil or product can damage the boiler. In that case recover only the heat in an exchanger and discharge the water within limits.
EPA pretreatment rules (40 CFR 403.5) bar heat that raises POTW influent above 40 °C (104 °F), and local sewer ordinances often set limits at the discharge point.
